Suggested sizes vary among manufacturers, but a general guide for choosing an air conditioner based on square feet is as follows: |

Such measurements assume a standard ceiling height and normal sun exposure. A 2 story ceiling would require twice the cooling. A sunnier room would require at least the next step up in size. Portable air conditioners require venting outside the room, and either come packed, or accept separately purchased venting supplies, such as hoses and window hose mounts. A relatively recent innovation, portable air conditioners are a great choice not only for their versatile portability, but also for when mounting a standard window air conditioner is impossible, undesireable, or not permitted. |
