BIONZ XR Image Processor

The XAVC HS format allows in-camera recording of 8K (7680 x 4320) 24p/25p movies with effective HEVC/H.265 compression, bringing out the best in Sony lenses utilizing the resolution offered by the sensor and full-pixel readout to the fullest extent possible. Even the most minute elements of the subject are carefully preserved. For 4K movie recording, full frame and Super 35mm formats are options. For 4K movies, 6.2x oversampling is feasible without the requirement for pixel binning thanks to full pixel readout in the Super 35mm mode. Supported formats include XAVC S-I (All-Intra) and XAVC HS, featuring 10-bit 4:2:2 color sampling.

8-Step Correction Using Advanced Optical 5-Axis In-Body Image Stabilization

For the first time in the series, the 7R V has been improved to provide up to 8 steps of body-only stabilization. The 61-megapixel resolution of the sensor is fully utilized by a novel stabilization algorithm, which offers precise detection and controls down to the single-pixel level. In slow-shutter interior or nighttime images, where it is preferred to eliminate the requirement for greater sensitivity, this achieves adequate stabilization.

LCD Monitor

With its newly created 4-axis multi-angle monitor from Sony, you can have the flexibility of a side-opening variable-angle monitor along with the usability of a traditional tilting panel. It offers unrestricted angle adjustment in both horizontal and vertical positions, allowing for more shooting flexibility.

Large, Medium, and Small RAW Image Sizes and Quality Options

There are three configurable pixel counts for the lossless RAW format on the Sony a7R V: L (60M), M (26M), and S. (15M). For a more straightforward post-production process, both M and S sizes offer the same resolution in full-frame and APS-C fields of view.

Steady Handheld Video Shooting

Strong image stabilization is available for handheld movie filming in Active Mode. Along with the camera's internal stabilization, compatible lenses with built-in image stabilization work in concert with the body of the camera for extremely effective control, enabling handheld telephoto images.

Pixel Shift Multi Shooting Adapts to Changing Circumstances

The control of the precise in-body image stabilization mechanism is used in Pixel Shift Multi Shooting. To obtain astounding resolution in one image, up to 16 pixel-shifted photos are taken, and then they are afterward composited using a computer. The most recent version of the Imaging Edge Desktop program automatically detects and corrects minor pixel-level motions.

Even at f/2.8, the excellent contrast at high spatial frequencies provides great resolution. Two high-precision XA (extreme aspherical) elements, two ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements, two Super ED glass elements and a floating focus mechanism control chromatic aberration, astigmatism, distortion and coma at all zoom and aperture setting. For exceptional clarity, Nano ARCoating II reduces flare and ghosting.

Bokeh is improved by precise control of spherical aberration during design and for each lens during manufacture. Onion ring bokeh is suppressed by two XA elements with 0.01-micron precision. With a maximum magnification of 0.32x, the minimum focusing distance is 0.21 metres at 24 mm and 0.30 metres at 70 mm.

Fast, Precise AF and Excellent Response

Four of Sony's original XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors, a floating focus mechanism and advanced lens control achieve high AF precision. This lens has approximately 2x better tracking performance while zooming than the previous model. The lens can shoot at up to 30 frames per second when used with a compatible body. The redesigned aperture unit also contributes to high speed, allowing for full AF tracking performance even when shooting with the aperture stopped down.

Movie Features Refined for Visual Creators

For smooth, expressive movie imagery, the latest lens design technology reduces unwanted image shifts and angle-of-view variations. The XD Linear Motors improve tracking and AF performance, allowing for high-frame-rate recording of fine detail. The upgraded dust- and moisture-resistant design adds to the durability of this lens for outdoor use in harsh situations. The front element is kept clean by a fluorine coating. A special aperture in the included lens hood allows for easy operation of circular polarising and variable ND filters (optional). For simple access and control when shooting in any orientation, two customisable focus hold buttons are provided.

Minimal Flare and Ghosting

Nano Anti-Reflective Coating II technology creates a consistent anti-reflection coating on lens surfaces, reducing flare and ghosting. Internal reflections, which can reduce clarity when shooting landscapes, sports, and a variety of other subjects, are reduced by the lens' construction.

Dedicated Aperture Ring and Iris Lock Switches

The aperture ring allows for quick and direct control. The Sony FE 70-200MM F2.8 GM OSS II lens provides excellent image quality throughout its entire zoom range, thanks to the two aspherical elements and one extreme aspherical element. Chromatic aberration is minimized with the two extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements, two Super ED glass elements, and one ED aspherical element. The G Master lens achieves lovely bokeh with its advanced optical design combined with the F2.8 aperture and the new 11-blade circular aperture unit. A XA element has 0.01-micron surface precision which suppresses onion bokeh.

Four of the extreme dynamic (XD) linear motors deliver high-thrust efficiency and boost the autofocus speed. This way you will get fast and continuous autofocus and tracking for stills and movies. The FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II lens, is designed with movie capabilities in mind. The latest lens reduces focus breathing, focus shift, and axis shift when zooming. The lens operates quietly and you have independent control rings (for focus, zoom, and iris) with a click on/off switch at your disposal. 

A lightweight lens with professional control

With just an overall weight of 2.3 lbs, it is 23 percent lighter than the previous model. The new design improves its balance while the constant barrel length gives you easy handling. This lens has flexible focus control provided by features such as full-time direct manual focus, linear response, and a focus range limiter. The aperture ring with switchable click and an iris lock gives you extra exposure controls.

Amazing close-up performance

This lens offers excellent close-up performance for a telephoto zoom. Minimum focus is 1.32 ft (0.4 meters) at 70mm and 2.69 ft (0.82 meters) at 200mm. Maximum magnification is 0.3x. Deep bokeh at F2.8 adds extra expressive close-up capability. Floating focus ensures pinpoint sharpness even at minimum focus distance, while inner focus makes it easy to get close.
