Compact Yet Sturdy Construction

The Blackmagic Design PYXIS’ lightweight and compact body is made from precision CNC machined aerospace aluminum. Mount it on a range of camera rigs like cranes, gimbals or drones is as easy as it gets. Despite featuring several 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch thread mounts on the top and bottom of the body, the Blackmagic PYXIS camera has a range of side plates that allow you to mount accessories such as handles, microphones or even SSDs.

Cinematic Digital Film Sensor

Featuring a large full-frame sensor with a native resolution of 6048 x 4032 or a massive 12288 x 8040, Blackmagic PYXIS features a sensor that is almost 3x the size of Super 35 sensor with uncompromised true cinematic look. Shoot in 112 fps on the PYXIS 12K. This sensor combined with Blackmagic color science results in the same quality as the most high-priced digital cinema cameras.

The Flexibility of Full-Frame

The large full-frame sensor in Blackmagic PYXIS lets you work in a variety of film formats and aspect ratios without giving up on quality. Use the full area of the sensor to gain a unique open gate 3:2 image to reframe your shots in post production. The large sensor gives you the leverage of true 6:5 anamorphic without cropping, thereby making widescreen cinematic images more detailed and in higher resolution than previously possible. You can even use the classic Super 35-sized window on the sensor to create an instant ‘close up’ version of your shots to make them fir seamlessly with open gate footage.

Excellent Dynamic Range Images

Dynamic Range is the distance between the lightest and the darkest parts of an image. It is measured in stops, and the Blackmagic PYXIS 12K offers a massive 16 stops of dynamic range. This means they preserve more detail in the lightest and darkest areas of an image compared to other video cameras. You can set exposure for an indoor scene such as a cafe and yet be sure to retain the details of the well-lit outdoor light coming through a window.

Outstanding Low Light Performance

ISO is a measurement of the image sensor’s sensitivity to light. Higher the ISO number, the more is the sensitivity to light. This science makes it possible to shoot in low light. Blackmagic PYXIS features ISO up to 25,600, and are optimized to minimize noise in images, while maintaining the full dynamic range of the sensor. PYXIS 12K boasts an ISO of 200 to 3200 and is optimized for 800, making it easy to capture excellent images without the need to set up lights.

Resolutions and Frames

The Blackmagic Design PYXIS 12K camera features a multi scale sensor that lets you shoot in 12K, 8K or 4K at the full sensor size. You can choose to shoot up to 40 fps at 12288 x 8040 3:2 open gate or 60 fps at 12288 x 5112 2.4:1 and 112 fps at 8192 x 3408 8K. Opt to work in true anamorphic 6:5 at much higher resolutions than other cameras using anamorphic lenses in 9.6K at 9648 x 8040.

Built-In LCD Monitor

The built-in LCD monitor on the Blackmagic PYXIS is a 4-inch high-resolution HDR touchscreen that is also perfect for monitoring and reviewing shots on set. Its full HD resolution lets you frame and focus your shots without the need to carry around a bulky external monitor. Plus, as an HDR display, it offers 1500 nits of brightness letting you see your shot or change settings, even in bright light. There are on screen overlays that display status and record parameters, there are histograms, levels, frame guide, and much more. Quickly apply 3D LUTs for monitoring shots for the color and look you desire.

Flexible Mounting

The side plates on the PYXIS expands the riggability of your camera. The standard plate which is included with Blackmagic PYXIS is constructed from the same aircraft grade aluminum as the camera body. It features 2 1/4-inch thread mounts and one 3/8-inch thread mount, letting you add microphones, brackets or other accessories to the camera. You can also attach the included SSD plate making it a convenient location to securely attach a USB-C drive for recording or even a mobile phone for live streaming.
