Sensor
Canon's 6K back-illuminated stacked full frame CMOS sensor is included in the EOS C80. Because of the sensor's remarkable low noise, the camera can perform well in a wide range of lighting conditions and reach its full dynamic range. In addition to having higher read-out rates than earlier EOS sensors, the new sensor's architecture improves sensitivity by increasing light catching efficiency and enhancing 4K image quality with 6K oversampling when compared to a front-illuminated CMOS sensor.
Triple Base ISO
The EOS C80 can produce beautiful images in a variety of lighting circumstances thanks to Canon's full frame 6K back-illuminated stacking sensor's triple-base ISO. These formats record in the well-known MP4 format, preserve information, and have an easy-to-manage name system and folder structure. Furthermore, 6K and 60P HDMI RAW output are supported with the EOS C80.
High Frame Rate Recording
The EOS C80 allows Subject Detection for frame rates between 72 and 120 fps and Dual Pixel AF II for frame rates of 100 and 120 fps when recording in slow and rapid motion (Slow and Fast, 4:2:2 10-bit).
Two SD Card Slots
Two SD Card slots on the EOS C80 allow for simultaneous recording and several recording modes, including relay recording, which is essential for long-duration video shoots, simultaneous recording of various formats and resolutions, and simultaneous recording for backup or proxy files for editing. Cards of the V90 class and SD UHS-II are compatible with the slots. Relay recording, simultaneous recording of multiple formats, simultaneous recording of proxy files, and dual slot recording are all supported.
Camera-to-Cloud (C2C) Technology
The camera will be natively compatible with Frame.io's Camera-to-Cloud (C2C) technology once the December 2024 software is released. For a quicker and safer transition from production to post, this feature will allow you to submit proxy files internally, straight from the camera, while you're recording. Teams at various locations can access, share, and edit the effective proxy files remotely without the need for extra processing or conversion.
Auto Focus
Canon's highly praised Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, is compatible with the EOS C80. Better light-capturing efficiency is provided by the camera's back-illuminated stacked sensor, which expands the sensor's usable area for AF.
People and Animal Detection Specialty
The EOS Intelligent Tracking and Recognition (iTR AF X) algorithm, created with deep learning technology, is used by Dual Pixel CMOS AF II to enable high-performance human detection with exceptional speed, accuracy, and a broad autofocus range. The camera can detect and accurately tracking a human body in addition to the head, face, and eyes. In order to provide extremely precise focusing and tracking that is unaffected by subject size or face position, iTR AF X Animal Detection can identify an animal's eyes, face, or full body.
Multiple Interfaces
The EOS C80 is a versatile camera for a range of productions because of its broad set of interfaces. The EOS C80 sets itself apart with a second full-sized BNC output for Time Code and built-in 12G or 3G SDI, which allow uncompressed video signal transfer over a secure cable connection. Additional interfaces include a full-size HDMI interface (HDMI Out, Type A Terminal), two three-pin mini-XLR audio inputs (Input 1 and Input 2), a microphone terminal (3.5mm stereo mini-jack), and a Remote terminal (2.5mm stereo mini-mini). The December 2024 firmware update allows the EOS C80 to record internally at greater resolutions and adds a 1920x1080p output option.
Ethernet and Wi-Fi Control
Canon's IP-based remote control XC Protocol is made possible by the integrated Ethernet connector and Wi-Fi. Operatability and remote control of camera settings are maximized using the XC Protocol. Canon's RC-IP1000 and RC-IP100 controllers (separately available) may control the camera via the XC Protocol, and third-party remote control panels (RCP) that support the XC Protocol can remotely shade the camera. Furthermore, multiple cameras and camera settings can be controlled with Canon's Remote Control Camera Application (RCCA).
