Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM Lens

The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM wide-angle, fixed focal length lens affordably expands your options with the EOS R System. Great for still photography and videography, the RF24mm can provide drama in your still images, and has a wide field of view for vlogging, while still maintaining a natural look. The bright f/1.8 aperture also does wonders for your images. Not only can you achieve beautiful, soft backgrounds, but you can shoot in more available light situations than you could with a slower lens. The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM also comes with built-in Optical Image Stabilization to further enhance your low-light shooting abilities by providing up to 5.5 stops* of shake correction, and up to 6.5 stops with coordinated IS. The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM is surprisingly light and compact while still providing a very solid feel. Another unexpected feature of this lens is its close-focusing capability. It can focus continuously down to half life-size magnification making this prime lens even more versatile. No matter what you end up doing with this lens, you will be rewarded with high-quality images that can take your photography to the next level.

A well-balanced wide-angle, fixed focal length lens

The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM makes for a lightweight and comfortable, all-day lens. It's ideal for capturing a variety of subjects and is a powerful lens that affordably expands the EOS R system.

Fast and bright

A bright f/1.8 maximum aperture allows for great control over depth of field and bokeh, low-light shooting and video recording, with fast and reliable autofocus.

Excellent image quality

Taking advantage of the Canon RF lens mount, the RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM lens offers great optical quality. Its optical design includes an aspheric element, and an Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) glass element for high image quality from center to corner, and Canon Super Spectra Coating to minimize ghosting and flare

Minimum focus distance of approx. 5.5 In. and close-up magnification 0.5x

MACRO With its impressive 5.5 In. minimum focusing distance, the RF24mm F1.8 IS STM lens is designed for working up-close and personal with subjects to document even the most minute of details. And because it has a maximum magnification of 0.5x, you can even experience close-up 1:2 half-life-size macro photography so you can capture a variety of macro subjects with stunning results.

Optical image stabilization - up to 5.5 stops* of shake correction

For consistently sharp results, the RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM features built-in optical Image Stabilization, providing enhanced shake reduction for up to 5.5 stops* of shake correction. When paired with an EOS R-series camera that has In Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), the Coordinated IS allows for up to 6.5 stops of correction. This means more reliable handheld performance and clearer detail in low-light situations, without having to increase the ISO or decrease the shutter speed. Because of its enhanced stabilization, the RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM can also help minimize the need for a tripod.

Lead Screw-type STM

Canon's stepping motor (STM) technology is especially effective at producing smooth, quiet autofocus during video recording, even in low light. This lens is a perfect choice for multi-media content creation with quiet autofocus. And, STM focus drive provides responsive, quick - and exceptionally quiet - AF during still-image shooting, as well.

Control Ring for Direct Setting Changes

The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM lens incorporates a control ring on the lens barrel that can directly adjust numerous settings including shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation and more. Located towards the front of the lens and effectively adding a third dial to the EOS R camera's main dial and quick control dial, the control ring has a tactile, easily distinguished surface and features a clicking mechanism that provides tangible feedback for confident use while looking through the viewfinder. For photographers and moviemakers who would prefer a silent control ring, the clicking mechanism can be removed by a Canon service provider for a fee.

Impressively compact and light at only 0.6 lbs/270g.

The compact size and light weight of the lens makes it an ideal companion on long hikes and excursions. It is also handy for a day out in the city and when you want to be creative with multiple prime lenses.

Circular 9-blade aperture for beautiful, soft backgrounds

You'll have no problem when shooting close-up images in getting that creative, fun and pleasantly smooth out-of-focus background blur we all love with the circular 9-blade aperture. Subjects will stand out, and the background provides a beautiful backdrop that's visually appealing in itself.

Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM Lens

Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM Lens SKU: 5668C002

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality Images After two days of shooting with this lens, I have to admit that I’m impressed with the image quality. Pictures are clear and sharp. The lens is wide enough to get a good wide angle shot but not so wide that I can see my shoes when pointing the lens straight ahead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good image quality I bought this lens and after using it for two days of photography, I have to say that I’m impressed. The view angle is wide enough for a good wide angle shot but not so wide that I can see my shoes when pointing straight ahead. The images are impressively crisp and detailed for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressed This is the first lens I bought with my R8 and I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s very bright and crisp, and the close zooming is impressive!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Great Prime For APS-C Purchased this lens for low-light general photo and video on my R7 (where it acts as a 38.4mm full frame equivalent), and it has certainly delivered for that purpose. The weak corners are cropped out on APS-C, leaving behind sharp and colorful imagery throughout. It's quite silent for video work too, perhaps due to the "Slow Focus Transition" setting. The image quality is even great wide open at f/1.8, however I've found the chromatic aberration at this aperture can ruin certain high-contrast scenes (such as snowscapes with dark tree trunks) despite not being overly visible on the LCD/EVF. Stop down to f/2.8 or darker in such scenarios. Unfortunately, I found it awkward to use for macro thanks to the focus breathing, which is a shame as the colors and sharpness are great. The moving focal element can be awkward too, and feels fragile even if it isn't particularly. The lack of an included hood it very petty on Canon's part. For $300 during a refurbished sale, this lens was well worth the money, especially for a crop camera. As a bonus it looks quite nice aesthetically mounted on the R7 too.
