With the Canon RF-S 7.8mm f4 STM Dual Lens, share your daily adventures with your followers using this new Canon stereoscopic lens. With the RF-5.2mm F2.8 L DUAL FISHEYE lens, Canon was officially the first to offer a high-resolution single-sensor solution for creating VR content. Canon has used their decade-long knowledge to create this lens at a price that does not burn a hole in your pocket.
Virtual Reality Like No Other
Pair this lens with an EOS R7 (firmware 1.5.0 plus) camera to provide the capability of delivering a single file, a modern solution compared to traditional VR systems that capture 3D scenes with two separate fisheye lenses, thereby writing two files. The updated approach of this lens saves user efforts and energy and helps to resolve multi-camera positioning, multi-lens syncing, image stitching, audio syncing, encoding, and more.
VR System
The Canon EOS VR Software Applications include the EOS VR Utility and EOS VR Plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro. This new lens offers 'Spatial' video as well as traditional 3D files, and the EOS VR Utility enables selection of the same providing flexibility and efficiency.
EOS VR Utility and EOS VR Plugin
Canon's EOS VR System has been updated to support the new lens. The EOS VR Utility, a standalone software application, and the EOS VR Plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro allow two workflow experiences for VR creators and studios.
60-Degree Field of View
The new lens is designed to deliver stereoscopic 3D imagery. It features dual 7.8mm lenses positioned with 11.8mm of spacing between Left and Right Lens centers to provide an interpupillary distance closely resembling human vision with a natural parallax. This creates an immersive experience that makes the viewer feel like they are part of the experience in real. A 60-degree optical field of view allows the viewer to change their viewing angle within the recorded scene. The 144-degree field of view has certain benefits - pixel density is increased and provides higher resolution even in 4K Fine mode, and it can be used with a tripod, gimbal, or microphones.
Auto Focus
A gear-type stepping motor (STM) with a dual-lens autofocus mechanism drives the left and right lenses, making Auto Focus simple to operate. It enhances operability of the electronic focusing or control ring. The left-right focus differential can be easily adjusted using the focusing or control ring and the left-right focus difference adjustment mode switch.
Large Aperture
The RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL Lens has dual optical systems with coordinated electronically controlled apertures. This allows the user to go from an f/4 aperture, to a deep depth of field of f/16 that offers more control of your exposure in bright environments. Additionally, since both the lenses are contained in a standard lens housing, it features a 58mm front screw thread for filters.
