The smc PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 Classic Lens is designed for use with the PENTAX K-mount digital SLR cameras. Offering a unique design concept, this compact standard lens lets photographers choose the lens that suits their style and use. Drawing inspiration from the iconic 1991-launch PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 lens, this contemporary counterpart incorporates large-diameter optical elements to fully cover the full-frame image circle of K-mount cameras.

Rainbow Flare

The lens imitates a unique feature commonly found in vintage lenses designed 50 years ago. It creates a visual effect known as a rainbow flare. This happens when the lens is set to an open aperture against a strong backlight. The new lens design has kept intact the classic look of the vintage smc PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 lens. It has a matte-black focus ring and features a black matte finish.

Play with Flares

The lens’ unique design and fine-tuning create the stunning rainbow flare visual effect when set against a strong backlight with an open aperture. However, the photographer can choose to play with flares by simply closing down the aperture to F4 or even smaller. This way, the photographer can take sharp images that do not have a rainbow flare or ordinary flare. Such images eliminate ghosting to give crisp and sharp details.

Vintage Design

The new lens has a matte black finish and a matte-black focus ring. This lens features no green ring, an iconic design symbol for PENTAX lenses, to give it a retro feel of the film-format SLR era lenses.

Multipurpose Use

Mount it on a PENTAX digital SLR camera body to use it as a standard 50mm lens in the full-frame format, or use it in the APS-C format to make it a 76.5mm medium-telephoto lens.
