The lens surfaces that come in contact with air are specially treated with the Pentax-original multi-layer coating, and the laminated surfaces are treated with innovative partial coating. This treatment allows efficient transmission of light (up to 90 percent, and 96 percent at 550nm) over the visible light spectrum.

With a JIS Class 4 weatherproof construction, the XW 16.5 can be used under drizzle or under night dew. However, it is not designed for underwater use, and submerging it underwater should be avoided.

This eyepiece has a sleeve size of 50.8mm (installment diameter) and if you remove the screw-on eyecup, you can find the screw thread with a 43mm diameter and a 0.75 pitch.
