The RICOH GR IIIx Urban Edition camera body is accented by a navy-blue ring around the lens barrel. This color was selected to represent typical street shooter imagery such as deep blue skies reflected in a puddle following a rainfall or the bright neon signs of a never-sleeping city. The camera body is finished in metallic gray, reminiscent of the gritty tones of the urban landscape. This unique exterior finish requires a multi-coat process, which results in the camera’s distinctive appearance and smooth texture. The coating also helps to make it easier for a photographer to get a firm grip on the camera. When the camera’s power is turned off, the camera displays an original shut-down screen featuring the product logo and a street-view image symbolizing the package’s urban-oriented concept.

Features

The RICOH GR IIIx features a newly designed GR lens that provides a 40mm standard angle of view in the 35mm format, close to the photographer’s own effective field of view. It delivers images with a more truthful sense of depth for a completely different type of street photography. This versatile lens is capable of creating different image renditions. Users can capture an image similar to those taken at a 30mm semi-wide angle or create a completely different visual expression as if taken at a 50mm standard angle. The camera's image resolving capacity is enhanced by a large 24.24 effective megapixels APS-C-size CMOS image sensor and the newest GR ENGINE 6 imaging engine. It has a high-speed hybrid autofocus system, built-in shake reduction, and a variety of new and improved post-shooting options functions that allow photographers to edit captured images in-body to the photographer’s preference. The camera's quick start-up time of only 0.8 seconds allows for quick, responsive shooting, and the high-definition LCD monitor has touchscreen operation and simple control of camera functions right on the screen. The RICOH GR IIIx is designed to further enhance the essential values of the GR-series: optimizing image quality, snapshot capabilities, and portability.

High-Resolution GR Lens

The 26.1mm GR lens features a new design that provides a 40mm standard angle of view in the 35mm format, delivering images with more realistic colors and a more accurate sense of depth for a new type of street photography. High-refractive index low-dispersion glass lenses and aspherical high-precision molded glass lenses are optimally arranged in the lens structure to reduce optical distortion and chromatic aberration to the absolute limit, producing a high level of sharpness. It also has an ND (Neutral Density) filter, which reduces the aperture by two stops to capture high-contrast, high-resolution photographs of a variety of sceneries and objects in a variety of lighting conditions.

High-Quality, High-Resolution Images

The approximately 24.24 effective megapixels APS-C image sensor produces excellent image quality, and the antialiasing filterless design ensures high-definition rendering even in the smallest details. The new GR ENGINE 6 improves the GR IIIx's image quality performance for a greater level of detail. Faster processing makes the combination of a high-resolution sensor and multi-tone 14-bit RAW possible. This gives the users a responsive and smooth experience.

Hybrid AF System

The hybrid autofocus system combines a contrast-type AF mechanism with a phase-detection-type AF mechanism to ensure high-speed focusing operation. During autofocus shooting, the AF system precisely recognizes the subject's face or eye, focuses on it, and indicates the in-focus position on the LCD display using the AF frame. When the camera recognizes numerous faces, it automatically separates the primary from secondary subjects and displays this on the focus frame.

RICOH-Original SR Mechanism

Shake Reduction (SR) reduces camera shake on three axes, including yaw, pitch, and roll, and provides up to 4 shutter steps of compensation, resulting in clean, precise images even when shooting split-second photographs or capturing images in low-light situations.

Compact Lightweight Design

The GR IIIx is built to be small, functional, and portable. The outer structure is built of a durable and robust magnesium alloy. It also has a number of user-friendly features, such as a quick start-up time of about 0.8 seconds, control dials conveniently located next to the four-way controller, and touch-screen operation that is simple to use, to improve operability and allow the user to quickly react to once-in-a-lifetime shutter opportunities.

High-Definition LCD Monitor

The 3.0-inch high-definition LCD panel with touch-screen operation provides various camera operations such as AF frameshift, menu selection, and image advance/magnification during playback. It's air gapless design significantly lowers light reflection and dispersion for better visibility. The Outdoor View Setting enables the user to quickly adjust the monitor's brightness to the desired level for improved visibility in low-light situations.

Image Control Function

The GR IIIx has a creative Picture Control feature that combines effect modes into conventional image setting operations. The user can quickly alter various parameters like saturation, hue, key, contrast, and graininess to the desired level and create their favorite finishing touch using 11 basic Image Control modes. The Image Control function menu can have a set of adjusted parameters that can be added as a custom setting.

Advanced Image Editing

The GR IIIx features in-body RAW-data development, allowing the user to alter a captured image without the use of a computer by adjusting parameters such as recoding size, aspect ratio, white balance, Image Control setting, and exposure compensation factor.
