23MP 1-Inch Back-Illuminated CMOS Sensor

The Ricoh Theta Z1 features a 1-inch back-illuminated CMOS image sensor. It includes two units that can support approximately 20MP effective pixels, producing high-resolution 360-degree images with an equivalent output pixel count of approximately 22.5MP (6720x3360). It delivers the highest still image ISO level of ISO 6400 and demonstrates excellent noise reduction performance, even in dimly lit conditions that require higher sensitivity.

High-Performance Image Processing Algorithm

While shooting in auto mode the camera automatically decides to use highlight compensation (DR compensation) and reduces blown highlights while increasing shadow detail, even in harsh lighting conditions. The high-performance image-processing algorithm delivers low- and high-sensitivity, low-noise, and high-resolution images. It also packs a wide range of shooting modes, including HDR Rendering, Multi-bracket shooting that can take continuous shots with up to 19 settings, and Interval Composite shooting which can be used to record star trails.

High-Quality 4K 360-Degree Videos

While shooting videos, the 3-axis rotational stabilization in the camera shows superior image stabilization. You can shoot smooth, 360-degree videos in 3840x1920 pixels, equivalent to 4K size, at 30fps. Aperture-priority automatic exposure (Av), Shutter-priority automatic exposure (Tv), ISO sensitivity automatic exposure (ISO), and Manual (M) exposure settings fine-tune the video settings. This camera also features a 4-channel microphone that supports 360-degree spatial audio recording built into its body.

Intuitive Main Body User Interface (UI)

The 0.93-inch organic EL (OLED) monitor provides shooting information such as the battery level, shooting mode, the remaining number of images, aperture, and ISO. Simply use the function (Fn) button to switch what is displayed—switch between normal and self-timer shooting, switch between three plug-ins, and switching light out and silent mode.

Support for RAW File Format

The Ricoh Theta Z1 supports RAW File Format, including JPEG format, RAW (Adobe DNG), and JPEG files. Users can enjoy professional editing of hues and image quality with the Ricoh Theta Stitcher app that enables image-stitching and is downloadable free of cost as a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic. After processing files recorded as RAW, the plug-in can produce spherical images in which the seams are invisible. Details about zenith corrections, directional corrections, and stitch distance settings can be edited freely.

Enhanced Functions Using Plug-ins

Access a variety of expanded functions by installing various plug-ins. This camera uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon and an Android-based operating system. Firmware updates facilitate continuous functional expansions and performance improvements.
