Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Art DG DN Macro Lens for L-Mount
The Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG DN is Sigma’s first full-frame, mirrorless-exclusive Macro Art lens, as the DN in the name indicates. It comes with an L-mount for Sigma, Leica and Panasonic cameras. Sigma Art lenses prioritize optical performance above all else in their design. The 105mm f/2.8 DG DN Macro Art certainly meets this standard, providing outstanding rendering performance from the center of the frame all the way to the edges. With a 1:1 reproduction ratio on full-frame cameras, this lens excels as a dedicated macro tool with remarkable optical quality and a moderate working distance. But while this lens is optimized for macro applications, its 105mm focal length, f/2.8 maximum aperture and incredible sharpness makes this an excellent short tele portrait lens as well. Being able to switch effortlessly from portraits to close-ups of fine details makes this a great multi-tasker in any photographer's bag.
Maximum Magnification Information
The Minimum Focus Distance of this lens (measured from sensor) is 11.6 inches, while the Working Distance (measured from front of lens) is 5.5 inches. In other words, this lens can capture 1:1 (life-size) magnification at 5.5 inches from front lens element. In practical terms, 1:1/life-size magnification means that a single frame from a roll of 35mm film will completely fill the frame of a full-frame camera.
Exposure Compensation / Effective F-stop / Bellows Effect
Due to the nature of macro lens design, it is often necessary to apply a degree of exposure compensation at closer / macro focusing distances. A chart in the product instruction manual provides the effective maximum aperture and exposure compensation amounts to apply at different distances/magnifications for a balanced exposure. This phenomenon affects all dedicated high-magnification macro lenses from all manufacturers.
