Compact, lightweight, and high-image quality RF telephoto zoom lens, with a versatile zoom range of 100-400mm
The travel-friendly size and weight (similar in size to the EF 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 IS II USM lens but a bit lighter) of this lens, makes it easier for it to be attached with a camera around your neck while walking around for an extended time. This lens supports Full-Frame format coverage.
Optical Image Stabilizer with up to 5.5 Stops* of shake correction
Because RF lenses are designed specifically for the RF Mount found on EOS R series cameras, the lens and camera combine to share Image Stabilization data, helping to dramatically reduce the effect of camera shake that can occur when working handheld. This applies when capturing both stills and video with up to 5 stops of stabilization* for accurate and clear content.
Up to 6 stops of shake correction** when paired with EOS R series cameras featuring In-Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS)
This IS enabled lens can provide even more steadiness when shooting, up to 6 stops of coordinated IS, if paired with an EOS R Series camera featuring In-Body Image Stabilization, such as the EOS R5 and EOS R6, to further help you capture impressively clear results with slower shutter speeds
Minimum focusing distance of 2.89 feet at 200mm and a maximum magnification of 0.41x at 400mm
With a minimum focusing distance of 2.89 feet at 200mm, the RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM lens is capable of capturing sharp and detailed images from various distances. Especially noteworthy is the lens’s close-up capabilities at the 400mm zoom setting — at its minimum focus distance, at 400mm, you can fill the frame with a subject about the size of a credit card providing outstanding versatility and strikingly sharp images.
High speed, smooth and quiet autofocus with Canon’s Nano USM
With any Canon EOS R-series camera, expect swift and positive autofocus. The Nano USM focus system is especially advantageous to video users, because of its combination of quiet operation and outstanding smoothness of focus changes during actual recording.
9-blade circular aperture for beautiful bokeh
Getting a smooth and natural-looking out-of-focus background blur isn’t a problem for this lens as it has a 9-blade circular aperture that separates your subject from the background, while also providing a beautiful backdrop that's visually appealing in itself.
Control Ring for direct setting changes
The RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM lens incorporates a Control Ring on the lens barrel that can directly adjust numerous settings including shutter speed, aperture, ISO, exposure compensation, and more. Located towards the front of the lens it effectively adds a third dial to EOS R and RP cameras, and the fourth dial to cameras such as EOS R5 and R6 cameras. With a tactile, easily distinguished surface and a clicking mechanism that provides tangible feedback for confident use while looking through the viewfinder, the control ring adds an outstanding connection to any shooting scenario. For photographers and moviemakers who would prefer a silent control ring, the clicking mechanism can be removed at a Canon Factory Service Center location for a fee.
Compatible with optional Canon Extenders RF1.4x and RF2x
To help get you even closer to the subject, attach the compatible optional Canon RF extenders to the RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM and get the equivalent of 560mm focal length coverage with the Extender RF1.4x, or 800mm using the Extender RF2x. In fact, the RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM is the first non-L-series Canon lens with tele extender compatibility, helping transform the lens into an incredibly powerful telephoto combination, with relatively modest additional size and weight. This added flexibility and versatility helps make the RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM an amazing option for nature photography and more.
