The new Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 STF GM OSS Lens represents another step forward in photographic technology. This G Master mid-range telephoto prime lens is a great choice for professional photographers who require the best optical performance possible. This lens utilizes Smooth Trans Focus (STF) technology to reduce chromatic aberration and provide softly dissolving bokeh without sacrificing image resolution. This means that the out-of-focus points of light in your photos retain a soft, blurry look as opposed to the harsh rings that can occur with lower quality lenses. In order to further improve image quality, the G Master lens features Sony’s Nano Anti-Reflective coating which reduces the amount of light that’s reflected by the lens and helps reduce lens flare and image ghosting.
Constant f/2.8 Maximum Aperture
Shooting in low-light situations is always challenging, but this lens’s constant f/2.8 maximum aperture ensures that you’ll get great looking pictures in any light. You won’t have to worry about readjusting exposure settings, either, as the lens maintains its settings as you zoom in and out. Since you won’t have to readjust exposure settings, you also won’t have to deal with slower shutter speeds in low light either.
Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization is built in, making it possible to achieve maximum subject sharpness with the lower shutter speeds. Image stabilization in a 100-mm mid-range telephoto lens is an advantage for professionals and amateurs alike. Second-generation α7 bodies additionally provide in-body 5-axis stabilization.
Apodization Bokeh
Specifically designed to produce extraordinarily smooth, natural bokeh, this lens features a unique optical apodization (APD) element, a newly designed 11-blade circular aperture, and minimal highlight distortion at the image periphery. Each lens is individually fine-tuned to ensure that the highest G Master standards are realized.
Extra Low Dispersion Glass Elements
The ED glass element built into the optical path works in conjunction with the aspherical lens element to further reduce chromatic aberrations. These elements reduce lateral and axial chromatic aberration without reducing resolution so your pictures will have a stunning level of texture and detail without sacrificing vibrant, lifelike colors.
Nano Anti-Reflective Coating
Sony’s original Nano Anti-Reflective Coating suppresses spurious reflections that can cause flare and ghosting, particularly in backlit situations. The result is consistently high contrast and clarity with deep blacks in the widest possible range of photographic situations.
Direct Drive SSM Autofocus System
A DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) focus drive system provides fast, precise, quiet autofocus. Fast, unobtrusive AF performance allows the user to concentrate fully on capturing superlative stills or movies. This lens supports both contrast AF and focal plane phase detection AF, making it an ideal match for modern high-performance Sony camera bodies.
Stunning Peripheral Highlights
In keeping with this lens's emphasis on bokeh, it has been designed to minimize vignetting that can distort highlight geometry at the image periphery. Point light sources are reproduced with consistently circular bokeh throughout the image, so that sunlight filtering through or reflecting off leaves, for example, is rendered with serene elegance.
11-Blade Circular Aperture
Sony's original circular aperture design has been improved with 11 blades for even greater circularity. Design and materials have been revised to ensure that an almost round aperture shape is maintained whether open or stopped down, and strict circularity standards are applied to ensure that the full beauty of STF bokeh is achieved without compromise.
