The EOS R5 Mark II is a worthy successor to the incredibly versatile EOS R5 bringing a host of new features that make this the most powerful EOS 5 series camera ever. It starts with a brand-new 45MP sensor that is back illuminated and stacked for blazingly fast read-out speeds that allow for a 30 fps electronic shutter, then builds on that with major focus improvements, increased video capabilities, and so much more.
Totally New Image Sensor
Even though the pixel count is the same as the EOS R5 camera body, this is a completely new 45MP sensor design with a redesigned architecture. This new full-frame sensor is stacked and back-illuminated allowing for incredible electronic shutter performance of 30 fps in RAW, JPEG or HEIF format.
Faster Readout Speed
The faster readout speed of the back illuminated and stacked full-frame CMOS image sensor in the EOS R5 Mark II, has reduced the rolling shutter distortion by about 60% compared to the previous EOS R5 camera body.
Dual Pixel Intelligent AF
Autofocus has been significantly upgraded on the EOS R5 Mark II with features like subject tracking which it shares with the new flagship EOS R1. The new Dual Pixel Intelligent AF subject tracking allows you to maintain focus on a subject even when they are obscured briefly while shooting. And, for even faster positioning of your active AF Area, the EOS R5 Mark II adds Canon’s Eye Control AF, which is even more advanced than the Eye Control in the EOS R3 camera. Once you calibrate the viewfinder to your eye, just look where you want to focus, and the AF Area will move there when you press the AF activation button.
Video for Creatives
The EOS R5 Mark II has extensive options for the creative imagemaker including resolutions up to DCI 8K, and frame rates up to 23.98p in Full-HD and DCI 2K resolutions. At 4K resolution frame rates up to 119.8p is also possible. These higher frame rate videos will now also support recorded audio for impactful high-speed, or slow-motion video. Powerful Custom Picture options also include Canon Log 2 and Canon Log 3, HLG, PQ, Canon 709 and BT.709 Standard and they are now more customizable through Custom Picture menu including the ability to apply a LUT to your image.
Up to 8K in RAW Video Format
RAW video can be recorded at 8K resolution, and there’s now an S-RAW setting for 4K RAW video recording. RAW video is now 14-bit recording, for even greater range of tonalities. For users who don’t need RAW video, MP4-type video can be recorded in a multitude of possible file types and resolutions, from Full HD (at up to 240 frames per second), 4K at up to 120 frames per second with sound and 8K.
Focus Bracketing with Flash and Depth Compositing
The EOS R5 Mark II becomes an even more powerful tool for macro and product photographers looking for immense detail. With a single press of the shutter button, the camera can automatically take a series of photos at different focus distances. The camera then performs depth compositing to generate an image that is clearly in focus from the foreground to background from the source images. This is useful in macro photography where depth of field is often shallow, or where a drop in image quality due to diffraction caused by a narrow aperture is a concern.
In-Camera Upscaling
The DIGIC Accelerator chip also has a useful in-camera upscaling feature that uses deep learning to double the horizontal and vertical size of a JPEG on your card (leaving the original image untouched) in about 10 seconds. That means you can upscale a 45 Megapixel image to 179 Megapixel right in the camera.
