The RF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens delivers gorgeous images in a large variety of shooting situations. Designed specifically for the Canon EOS R mirrorless system, the RF Mount lens sports a prime 50mm focal length and an incredible f/1.2 maximum aperture. That means amazing performance in low light and gorgeous, detailed images with evocative background blur. Nano USM technology combines USM (UltraSonic Motor) and STM AF systems to provide a high-speed, precise, and ultra-silent autofocus system. RF lenses are intended for professional photographers, high-end amateurs, and low-light moviemaking and were built for compatibility with the new Canon EOS R mirrorless system and Canon RF Mount.

Construction

The RF 50mm lens is comprised of 15 lens elements in 9 groups. The RF lens features 3 aspheric lens elements for high image quality from edge to edge and an UD (ultra-low dispersion) lens elements that help correct distortion and reduce aberrations throughout the image plane. Canon’s Air Sphere coating minimizes ghosting and flare to give you greater contrast and excellent color neutrality. Air Sphere gives you minimal distractions and aberrations in your Canon 50mm lens. The 12 pin high-speed communication system processes data to your from your RF lens to your Canon EOS R camera faster than any other lens/camera combination. The rear elements capitalize on the short flange back of the EOS R system, contributing to the high optical performance and making RF lenses much smaller than their Canon EF counterparts. The first eleven elements constitute the focusing optics.

Control Ring

All RF lenses incorporate a control ring on the lens barrel that can directly adjust numerous settings including shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation and more. Located towards the front of the lens and effectively adding a third dial to the Canon EOS R camera’s main dial and quick control dial, the ring has a tactile, easily distinguished surface and features a clicking mechanism that provides tangible feedback for confident use while looking through the viewfinder.
