Turn small specimens into detailed observations with the National Geographic 40x to 1600x Microscope. The optical system combines WF10x and WF20x eyepieces with 4x, 10x, and 40x objectives, while the included 2x Barlow lens expands the available magnification range. Begin at lower power to center a sample, then increase magnification as more detail is needed.
Light the Sample From Above or Below
Incident light illuminates nontransparent objects from above, while transmitted light illuminates transparent samples from below. A rotary control also allows both light paths to operate together for semitransparent specimens. The built-in dimmer and filter wheel with pinhole aperture help manage brightness and contrast as the sample changes.
View and Capture on a Computer
Swap the optical eyepiece for the included USB eyepiece to view specimens on a compatible Windows computer. The documented CamLabLite software supports image and video capture, with system requirements that include Windows 7, 8.1, or 10, at least 4 GB RAM, 2 GB free storage, a free USB 2.0 port, and a CD or DVD drive. The USB eyepiece is used without the 2x Barlow lens.
Explore With Slides and Experiment Tools
The set includes prepared slides, 5 blank slides, a slide case, slide covers, yeast, sea salt, brine shrimp eggs, 2 empty vials, a shrimp hatchery, scalpel, pipette, needle, tweezers, smartphone adapter, USB eyepiece, PC software, and an experiments book. The microscope uses 3 AA batteries, which are not included, making it practical to use away from an outlet. It is intended for users aged 12 and older, and children should use it only with adult supervision.
