Nikon's SB-5000 AF Speedlight is the latest advance in flash technology. The SB-5000 features Nikon’s Creative Lighting System with Advanced Wireless Lighting which is a radio control system that allows photographers to control up to 6 groups of flash units from up to 98 feet away without requiring line of sight. This new flash system also features the world’s first show-mounted flash cooling system that can handle more than 100 consecutive firing without overheating. The SB-5000 is capable of on or off camera functionality so it can control other Speedlight units when mounted on a DSLR or fire remotely when used as an off-camera wireless unit. The SB-5000 also features a new compact design with a smaller footprint while still retaining features like multiple flash modes, adjustable zoom head position and flash compensation value.

A New World of Creative Lighting Options

Thanks to the new radio control system built into the SB-5000, photographers can place clusters of flash units anywhere they want, including behind furniture or in other rooms, without worrying about maintaining line-of-sight for operation. The use of radio frequencies also means you can use the SB-5000 outdoors in direct sunlight which isn’t possible with traditional infrared units. Now you can experiment with nearly limitless lighting set-ups and all you have to do is remain with 98 feet of the flash units you want to control. In order to utilize the radio control features, you need a Nikon D50 or D500 camera and the optional WR-A10 Wireless Remote Adapter and the WR-R10 Wireless Remote Controller.

Nonstop Flash Performance

The SB-5000 features the world’s first hot shoe mount flash cooling system. The built-in cooling system and heat shedding design allows the flash to fire more than 100 consecutive times at full power without overheating. This is great news for frequent TTL users who no longer have to wait for their flash units to cool down because of multiple preflashes.

Reimagined Design

Designed for photographers who rely on portable lighting, the SB-5000 AF Speedlight is smaller and easier to use. It has a smaller footprint and provides streamlined access to frequently used functions such as Flash Mode, Zoom Head Position and Flash Compensation Value. Like a DSLR camera, the SB-5000 AF Speedlight has an “Info” button for quick access to your favorite settings. For more fluid operation when using radio control, you can adjust settings right from a compatible camera's (Nikon D5 and D500) menu.

Maximum Compatibility

In addition to the new radio control with compatible cameras, you can use the SB-5000 AF Speedlight on-camera as a Master Flash to control other remote Speedlights (up to 3 Groups: A/B/C and 4 channels), or use it off-camera wirelessly as a remote flash controlled by either your camera's built-in flash (compatible cameras), another Speedlight or the SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander. You can even mix optical wireless control (Groups A/B/C) with radio control (Groups D/E/F). For studio photographers, the SB-5000 AF Speedlight is equipped with Unified Flash Control and can be controlled from a personal computer using the optional Camera Control Pro 2 (Version 2.23 or later) software.
