Equipped with a variety of recording functions, the WS-883/WS-882 can record in easy-to-hear sound, whether in a lecture in a large classroom or in a language conversation class for one-on-one lessons. Two low-noise directional microphones positioned at a 90° layout enables high-quality recording in a realistic stereo feeling. This feature ensures that you capture even the direction and the distance of the speakers in a meeting. During recording, the low-cut filter is used to cut the sound at frequencies of 300 Hz and lower, typical examples being the sound of air conditioners or projector fans. This filter also proves effective when recording with wind blowing outside. You can select ON or OFF according to your option. The Intelligent Auto Mode function automatically adjusts the microphone sensitivity according to the input level. For example, when you record a person's voice far away in a large meeting room, the recorder automatically raises the microphone's sensitivity, making it easier to hear. On the other hand, when you record in a smaller meeting room with only a few people, the sensitivity is automatically lowered.

An impressive array of playback functions

The device has a full range of playback functions, including a Voice balancer that makes it easier to hear distant voices and a Noise cancellation function that suppresses excess noise. It also includes features that expand the range of usage scenarios, such as a useful mode for language learning that supports listening and learning. Voice changer gives the user the ability to convert the pitch to a more audible pitch making it less tiring to listen repeatedly to content such as language study. The playback speed can be adjusted between a range of ×0.5 (slowest) and ×2 (fastest). ABC repeat playback allows you to repeatedly listen to phrases you would like to memorize. Shadowing mode repeats voice playback and silent playback to you can practice your hearing and speech.

Usability

We have focused on ease of use to prevent forgetting to listen and make finding the desired file easier. The rechargeable battery in the unit can also be recharged by connecting it to the USB port of a PC. In the list and file screens, unplayed audio files are marked with a ◆ so that you can see at a glance which lecture files you have not yet reviewed. There is a music folder for storing audio files and a podcast folder for storing files distributed as podcasts. Up to 400 folders can be created for each folder. Files can be searched via a calendar method and reading files is easy.
