The RED Digital Cinema V-RAPTOR XL 8K S35 combines 8K Super 35 acquisition, high frame rate REDCODE RAW recording, integrated electronic ND, and production focused power and connectivity in an XL cinema camera body. Its 35.4 MP CMOS sensor captures 8192 x 4320 pixels across a 26.21 mm x 13.82 mm imaging area and delivers 16.5 plus stops of dynamic range. The Super 35 format supports a broad range of cinema lenses while preserving the resolution needed for reframing, stabilization, visual effects, and high resolution finishing.
8K REDCODE RAW and High Frame Rate Capture
V-RAPTOR XL records REDCODE RAW at up to 120 fps in 8K 17:9 and up to 150 fps in 8K 2.4:1. Lower resolution formats extend capture to 240 fps at 4K 17:9, 320 fps at 3K 17:9, and 600 fps at 2K 2.4:1. R3D files store 16 bit RAW sensor data while keeping ISO, white balance, and other color processing choices as metadata for post production flexibility. Qualified CFexpress Type B media supports data rates up to 800 MB/s, while dedicated Apple ProRes recording is available at resolutions up to 4096 x 2160.
PL Mount and Integrated Electronic ND
The interchangeable lens mount system includes a shimmable V-RAPTOR XL PL Mount with support for Cooke /i and Zeiss eXtended lens data. An optional locking EF mount adds electronic focus and iris control for supported EF lenses. The built in electronic ND system provides 2 to 7 stops of density with selectable 1/4, 1/3, and full stop increments, allowing exposure to be adjusted while maintaining the intended aperture and depth of field.
Production Power, Monitoring, and Connectivity
The Gold Mount configuration uses an integrated dual voltage 14/26 V battery interface and provides regulated 12 V and 24 V auxiliary outputs for production accessories. Three 12G SDI outputs support independent professional monitoring, while a dedicated 3G SDI output supports EVF workflows. Tri level genlock, LTC timecode, PTP synchronization, wireless timecode and genlock, Wi-Fi, USB C, and Gigabit Ethernet support synchronized, remotely operated, and networked productions. RED Control provides camera operation and live preview, with wired connections also supporting remote media offload.
XL Body for Crew Operated Production
The aluminum alloy camera body measures 7.91 inches long by 6.29 inches wide by 7.22 inches high without a lens mount and weighs approximately 8.05 lb with the PL Mount and Gold Mount configuration. The DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0 inch LCD can be mounted through the proprietary top accessory port, while the integrated 2.4 inch LCD provides direct camera control without preview video. IPP2 color management supports 33 x 33 x 33 3D LUTs and CDL import, giving production and post teams a controlled color workflow for narrative, broadcast, natural history, commercial, and studio environments.
