The new Pentax WG-8 is proudly announced by Ricoh Imaging.
The Pentax WG-8, the toughest model in the WG series, offers exceptional
performance in terms of being shockproof, waterproof, and resistant to cold. It
can function in as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 10 degrees Celsius), and
it is waterproof down to a depth of 65.6 feet (20 meters). It is also shockproof
against falls from heights of 6.8 feet (2.1 meters). The WG-8 boasts a plethora
of sophisticated features and intuitive functionalities, such as an adaptable
ring light that is perfect for up-close macro photography and webcam
functionality that allows for the live broadcasting of sharp, high-definition
photographs when linked to a computer. Because of its sturdy design, the WG-8
operates incredibly well and consistently on construction sites and in
challenging outdoor environments. It takes excellent 4K-resolution movie clips
and extremely high-resolution still photos with about 20 effective megapixels.
With a minimum focusing distance of one centimeter and focal-length coverage
ranging from 5 to 25 mm (or 28 to 140 mm in 35 mm format), the 5x optical zoom
lens enables the user to record a wide range of photos, from striking close-ups
to expansive landscapes.
Rugged and Durable Build
The solid, airtight body of the WG-8 is not only dustproof (equivalent to IPX6
or JIS Class 6), resistant to temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees C,
crushproof against weights of up to 100kgf (kilogram-force, or approximately
220.5 lbs of force), shockproof against a fall from heights of up to 6.8 feet
(2.1 meters), and waterproof to a depth of 65.6 feet (20 meters) - the greatest
operating depth in the history of the WG series. Because of its sturdy design,
the WG-8 performs incredibly well and consistently on construction sites and in
challenging outdoor environments.
Premium Image Capture
The WG-8 produces super-high-resolution images with an approximate 20 effective
megapixel resolution and a top sensitivity of ISO 6400. It does this by
combining a high-performance imaging engine with a state-of-the-art
back-illuminated CMOS image sensor that offers excellent high-sensitivity,
low-noise characteristics, and high-speed readout of image data signals.
Additionally, it incorporates cutting-edge picture processing features to
guarantee crisp, high-resolution photos.
Lens and Coverage
With a minimum focusing distance of one centimeter and angle-of-view coverage
from 5mm to 25mm (or roughly 28mm to 140mm in the 35mm format), the WG-8's 5x
optical zoom lens enables the user to take striking close-ups of wide
landscapes. Its Interval Shooting mode is useful for fixed-point photography,
and its Intelligent Zoom function allows you to zoom in up to 40.5 times
without sacrificing image quality. While opting for fixed-point photography,
Interval Shooting mode is the option to select.
4K Movie Recording
With the WG-8, you can record movies in 4K resolution in the H.264 codec, which
lets you take longer, better-looking movie clips (3840 x 2160 pixels, 30 frames
per second). It has two modes: Movie SR (Shake Reduction) and Movie SR Plus.
Movie SR Plus produces a shake-reduction effect akin to that of a gimbal unit
to guarantee high-quality movie shooting with more dynamic, quick-paced outdoor
activities.
Convert to a Webcam
When the WG-8 is in the UVC (USB Video Class) mode, it may be used as a webcam
to transmit Full HD-resolution video images at 30 frames per second to a
computer via a USB cable (which comes with the device as standard equipment).
During online business meetings or private online conversations, the user can
provide more detailed and imaginative photographs than those taken by the
computer's built-in camera by combining the camera's macro shooting capacity
with its built-in Ring Light unit.
Six-Bulb Ring Light
The six-LED Ring Light unit of the WG-8 is positioned around the perimeter of
the lens barrel, allowing the user to decrease camera shake and subject shake
when taking macro and close-up photos and to select a faster shutter speed. It
is possible to change the discharge level to the desired level. Additionally,
this unit offers selective illumination, which allows the user to highlight the
contours of the subject and illuminate it in a more three-dimensional manner by
just turning on the lights that are aligned horizontally or vertically.
LCD Monitor
The 3-inch LCD monitor on the WG-8 is large and has excellent resolution
(3:2 ratio and roughly 1040000 dots). Sharp, clear on-screen images are
guaranteed even in intense sunlight thanks to the AR (Anti-reflection) coating
that has been put to the monitor's outer cover. The Outdoor View Setting lets
the user maximize the visibility of the on-screen image by adjusting the
monitor's brightness level in response to variations in the surrounding
lighting.
GPS and Compass
The integrated GPS module automatically sets the built-in clock to the local
time, captures position data, and logs travel logs onto photos that are taken.
This module is able to receive signals from US GPS satellites and the GLONASS
(Global Navigation Satellite System) with only one action. Using previously
obtained position data, the GPS Lock function allows the user to save GPS data
onto produced photographs. This is a very useful feature for indoor
photography. Images can also have the imprint of GPS data, digital compass
direction data, and UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) in the lower right corner.
