The Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM lens represents another step forward in photographic technology. This G Master 35mm, full frame, standard zoom lens is a great choice for professional photographers who require the best optical performance possible. In order to further improve image quality, the lens features Sony’s Nano anti-reflective coating that reduces the amount of light that’s reflected by the lens and helps reduce lens flare and image ghosting. This lens also has a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture that allows you to more easily maintain exposure settings while changing the zoom range.
Constant f/2.8 Maximum Aperture
Shooting in low-light situations is always challenging, but the lens’ constant f/2.8 maximum aperture ensures that you’ll get great looking pictures in any light and at any zoom range. You won’t have to worry about readjusting exposure settings, either, as this lens maintains its settings as you zoom in and out. Since you won’t have to readjust exposure settings, you also won’t have to deal with slower shutter speeds in low light either.
Extra Low Dispersion (ED) and Super ED Glass Elements
The two separate ED and Super ED glass elements that are built into the optical path work in conjunction with the XA lens element to further reduce chromatic aberrations. These elements reduce lateral and axial chromatic aberration without reducing resolution so your pictures will have a stunning level of texture and detail without sacrificing vibrant, lifelike colors.
Extreme Aspherical (XA) Lens Element
Newly developed XA technology helps insure that your photos will maintain beautiful corner-to-corner resolution regardless of how much you move through the zoom range. It also helps eliminate chromatic aberration so your photos always have the most vibrant colors possible. Another advantage of XA technology is the smooth, soft bokeh it provides. The harsh rings that can appear in out-of-focus light sources are eliminated by the Sony FE 24-70mm, providing you with even more artistic possibilities regardless of if you’re shooting stills or video footage.
Nano Anti-Reflective Coating
Sony’s original Nano anti-reflective coating technology minimizes flare and ghosting, for dynamic range that achieves lifelike detail and gradation with advanced camera sensors. This precisely defined regular nano-structure allows accurate light transmission, contributing to high-quality images, even more so than with lenses that use coatings with an irregular nano-structure. The reflection suppression characteristic of the Nano anti-reflective coating is superior to conventional anti-reflective coatings, providing a notable improvement in clarity, contrast, and overall image quality.
50 Line Pairs/mm Resolving Power
It is not easy to achieve spatial frequency of 50 lines pairs per millimeter at a lens's widest aperture, but that is Sony's baseline for G Master design. Unprecedented resolution and other demanding design parameters yield outstanding reproduction of the most detailed subjects and scenes with superior contrast throughout every frame.
Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM)
High-resolution camera bodies demand absolute focus precision. The Direct Drive Super Sonic Wave Motor (SSM) focus system is more than up to the task for both stills and movies. DDSSM has the capability to position the large, heavy optical assemblies required by large-aperture lenses with pinpoint precision, offering advantages for manual focus as well as autofocus. Manual focus response is also natural and intuitive.
9-Blade Aperture
The remarkable beauty of this lens’s bokeh is further enhanced by a 9-blade circular aperture design that contributes not only to smoothness, but to natural highlights as well.
